Approval of a Autozone on 117 adjacent to the Burgaw Motel was completed in December 2018 and is expected to be under construction in the spring of 2019.

Development Code Re-Write
Due to recommendations made in the Burgaw 2030 Comprehensive Land Use Plan and inconsistencies found in the UDO reorganization, a re-write of the entire development ordinance has been recognized as a need by the Planning Board. The first priority is to update the development review process allowing for increased reviews and approvals at the staff level.
The next step will be a complete rewrite of the ordinance to ensure consistency of the ordinance in its entirety as well as updates for current general statutes and trends in the development community.
Staff has updated the zoning map and worked with Pender County to be available on the Pender County GIS site at https://gis.pendercountync.gov/maps
West Side Trail & Parks Project
The Planning Board is working with the Parks & Recreation Committee to develop a plan for a trail and parks project for the west side of town. At their August 18, 2016 meeting, the planning board considered three potential trail routes. They decided against the proposed Smith St. route, and staff will be preparing more information on other route options to be discussed at their September meeting.
