The purpose of the Inspections Department is to safeguard life
or limb, health, property and public welfare of the general
public by enforcing the Minimal codes set forth in law by the
State of North Carolina and the Town of Burgaw.
The minimal codes are created by the International Code
Councils in each area including: Building, Electrical,
Plumbing, Mechanical, Gas and Accessibility. These Codes are
then reviewed By the North Carolina State Fire Marshal
Division in Raleigh who also sets up code councils for each
area except Electrical. After their review there are often
amendments made for specific items creating the International
Codes with North Carolina Amendments. The amended codes are
adopted by the State and made available to local jurisdictions
state wide for adoption.
