Town of Burgaw Parks and Recreation Master Plan
West Side Trail and Parks Project
The town is currently working to develop a plan for a trail and parks project for the west side of town. Three proposed trail routes were submitted to the Planning Board at their August 18, 2016 meeting. The board decided against a Smith St. route and requested staff provide more information on north/south route alternatives. Those alternatives will be discussed at their September 15, 2016 meeting.
The two proposed trail routes that remain on the table run primarily along McCullen St. and include inner and outer loops, and the outer loop for both runs along the portion of Burgaw Creek on the west side of town.
- Trail Route Option A includes a 1.25 mile inner loop that runs along Hayes, McCullen, and Ashe Streets. Once all three phases are complete, along with the proposed sidewalks from the 2015 Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan, this route would result in total 3.77 miles.
- Trail Route Option B has a 1.6 mile inner loop along Clark, S. Smith, N. McCullen, and Wallace Streets. The complete project would provide a total of 3.1 miles of sidewalks and trails, including the recommendations of the 2015 Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan.
